Scierie Faucheron – Over a century of wood expertise in Vendée

1915 – The origins of a passion for wood

The history of the sawmill dates back to 1915, when Arsène Faucheron founded the company in Fontenay-le-Comte (Vendée). Ideally located, the business was born in the heart of a forested region rich in solid-wood furniture makers and wood joinery workshops.

Its proximity to the Atlantic ports of La Pallice and Nantes later enabled strong growth through the import of exotic hardwoods.

A Vendée sawmill in constant evolution

From craftsmanship to mechanized sawmilling

In 1940, the company invested in its first sawing unit, marking an industrial turning point.
During the 1960s, the sawmill underwent major modernization with the automation of its sawing lines, improving both accuracy and production capacity to meet growing market demand.

Kiln drying and the structuring of know-how

In 1985, the sawmill installed its first kilns, a key step to ensure high-quality kiln-dried lumber suitable for secondary processing requirements.
In 1992, new, more efficient sawing equipment was commissioned to further enhance precision and output.

The 2000s – Expanding into secondary processing

In 2001, the company structured its secondary transformation operations by creating a dedicated entity, AvivBois, specializing in custom ripping and cross-cutting.

Major investments followed, allowing the company to broaden its product range and establish itself as a leading player in the French hardwood industry:

  • 2005: Installation of moulders for planing and profiling, opening new opportunities for finished wood components.

  • 2010: Investment in finger-jointing and gluing lines to meet rising demand for reconstituted and engineered wood.

  • 2012: Launch of laminated and edge-glued blanks in oak and red exotic hardwoods, a high-value-added activity.

  • 2019: Construction of an 1,800 m² climate-controlled facility (temperature and humidity regulated) dedicated to the production of 3-ply edge-glued laminated blanks, ensuring dimensional stability and consistent manufacturing quality.

Automation and site development

In 2023, Scierie Faucheron invested €6 million in a fully automated sawing unit, strengthening its ability to meet market demands while optimizing cutting quality and production capacity.

In 2024, all primary and secondary transformation activities were consolidated on a single 6-hectare site, improving logistics flow and fostering synergy between teams.

In 2025, the company integrated new administrative offices, reflecting its continuous growth and long-term vision.

Beyond technical expertise, Scierie Faucheron strives to build and maintain a trust-based relationship with each of its clients.
